"Star Wars Episode I"
Primary Alterations
Battle droids look solid and deadly. Droidekas are the same.
The Trade Federation leaders are shrewd and confident, but not as good as Palpatine.
Jar-jar is a Gungan smuggler (or something similar, perhaps mercenary). He is smart and rebelious, as well as a talented pilot, both underwater and soon in space. He is seen in the cockpit with Anakin learning the controls for space ships.
The Gungans have a long tradition of isoloationism, that Jar-jar eventually ends.
Need a new name for Jar-jar. It's just too dumb sounding.
Naboo is a monarchy, not a democracy. Queen Amidala is recently crowned due to the death of both of her parents and uncle in separate "accidents". There are later hints that Palpatine wanted her on the throne to take advantage of her naievete.
Anakin is the same age as Amidala. About the same age Luke was supposed to be in Ep.4.
R2 is never singled out and congratulated by the queen.
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan give subtle hints that they know Padme is the Queen.
The gang is extremely lucky (guided by the Force) to come out of hyperspace near Tatooine. They could easily have starved in the space between stars.
Anakin's father abandoned him and his mother when he was younger, leaving them to be enslaved.
Cliegg Lars has long been a good friend to Anakin and Shmi. He bets some money on Anakin, and because he is such a long shot wins a great deal. He then promptly frees Shmi.
Nobody has ever heard of midi-chlorians. The Force has no physical component.
Force sensitive individuals begin training when they are very young. If they are not trained, they naturally suppress their abilities to seem more normal (like Luke and Leia). When Anakin comes along with his Force abilities practically bursting forth, the Jedi Council has no precedent for his training. After Qui-gon's death it falls to Obi-wan to train him. Later when Obi-wan begins to teach Luke, he has experience teaching older students.
The Gungans are not native to Naboo, nor are they aquatic creatures. Long ago their homeworld was destroyed by Mandelorians, and they were scattered. They became nomadic and shunned technology for many generations, instead developing organic tools and weapons. Once they had developed the underwater city technology, they began settling on planets with large oceans, where they could live isolated and in peace. They never forgot the lessens taught by the Mandelorians, and continued to maintain an army and strong defenses.
Jar Jar can do almost all the same things in the battle of Naboo, except on purpose.
Anakin and Padme are obviously hooking up in ep 1, they decide to go against their conflicting responsibilities in the beginning of ep 2, they get married in reel 2 of ep 2.
Anakin starts training under Palpatine in the end of ep 2, though it seems innocent. Palpatine makes it sound like the Jedi are only one school of Force training, and though he is no Jedi, he can teach other skills which could allow Anakin to make full use of his abilities.
The trade federation has a new technology that disables technological weapons and defenses. Their army is equipped with the counter-technology so that only they can operate machines. This is why the Gungan's organic-based army is so important. _________________ I cannot teach him. The boy has no pants. |
